Korach (קֹרַח ) #7141 Ice, bald
Numbers 16:1-18:32
1 Samuel 11:14-12:22
Acts 5:1-11

the Levite Korah son of Izhar along with Dathan, Abiram, and On from the tribe of Reuben lead 250 well-known men from among the children of Israel to rise up against Moshe and Ahron. Korah and his band asked Moshe and Ahron why they placed themselves above the rest of the community, for the entire congregation is holy.
Woe to them, in that they have walked the road of Kayin, they have given themselves over for money to the error of Bil‘am, they have been destroyed in the rebellion of Korach. Jude 1:11 CJB
These people have left the straightway and wandered off to follow the way of Bil‘am Ben-B‘or, who loved the wages of doing harm  but was rebuked for his sin — a dumb beast of burden spoke out with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s insanity! Waterless springs they are, mists driven by a gust of wind; for them has been reserved the blackest darkness. Mouthing grandiosities of nothingness, they play on the desires of the old nature, in order to seduce with debaucheries people who have just begun to escape from those whose way of life is wrong. 2 Peter 2:15-18

Having all heard the words of the Lord on Sinai, (Exodus 19:6)  they believed they were all fit to be priests and to offer sacrifices on behalf of their families, as they used to do, before Aaron and his sons were separated to the priesthood. Perhaps thinking since everyone was holy to the LORD they should have the right to draw near unto him, and officiate as priests. Korah and these other men, chiefs of the congregation and well-known men sought the honor of the priesthood out of pride and vanity; not out of a desire to serve the LORD.
