March 14, 2022

"There’s a global suspense all around us, but we know who the Messiah is. We have the peace. We have the joy of our salvation. We have the Holy Spirit. We have a new heart. The only thing that is not new, the only redemption that is still left, is the redemption of our body because He needs to finish that work. And that will happen very fast. Keep on taking care of yourself. I’m not saying don’t, but this is not what’s going to be in heaven, okay? I will barely recognize you up there. But I want you to know that for us, the suspense is over; for us it’s over. Don’t be frantic. Don’t be like someone who is all day long looking for when? For the day. All you need to live life right now is that readiness – the expectancy – and to eagerly wait for His return."

Bible Bite: The Suspense is Over

Among the many values of studying the book of Revelation is that we get a glimpse of what goes on in heaven. We read in Revelation 21 of the New Jerusalem – the twelve foundations made of precious stones, the four-sided city that has three gates on each side, each gate comprised of a single, giant pearl. The city is made of gold so pure it is clear like glass, and the light of the city is not the sun or moon, but the light of the lamb of God Himself.

We will see the New Jerusalem after the Millennium and Great White Throne judgment have been completed. The good news is that we won’t have to wait all that time to be able to see unbelievable and amazing things.

Revelation also gives us an actual description of the throne room of God! This is what we will see on our arrival in heaven after the Rapture:

Revelation 4:1-11
After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.” Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!”

Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.”

If you sped through that long quote, stop and read it again, for someday every born again Christian is going to see all that is written there. This is not figurative language. There are four living creatures in the throne room of God who never cease day or night with a declaration of God’s holiness. At their declaration the 24 Elders seated around the throne of God cast their crowns before the throne and declare the worthiness of God to receive glory, honor, and power.

The emerald green rainbow and the sea of glass before the throne will one day amaze your eyes with their brilliance, and the room will be filled with the majestic sounds of thunder and flashes of lighting and voices of praise will fill the air. The scene will be overpowering to the senses! It will happen for us as it happened for John. We will be told, with the sound of the trumpet of God and voice of an archangel, to “come up here”, and all that John has written will be in front of us when we do.

You might be wondering what would you wear to such a place and to such an occasion? The good news is that God already has that taken care of, as well.

1 Corinthians 15:50-53
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

This unbelievable heavenly scene is going to be observed by saints who have put on immortal incorruptibility in the twinkling of an eye. The dead in Christ will rise, the alive in Christ will change, then all will encounter what you just read in Revelation.

This is not a figurative word picture. This is a literal heavenly scene that awaits us all. We will witness it as immortal and incorruptible beings who inhabit glorious bodies like that of the resurrected Lord Jesus. This tells us we have something incredible to look forward to.

Maybe for you right now life isn’t looking so amazing. Maybe your situation isn’t great or is difficult to the point of being almost unbearable. Read Revelation 4 again and remind yourself that this is where you are headed. A pain, problem, tear, and sorrow-free existence in a place whose beauty cannot be described in words. It must be experienced to be understood.

The unbelieving world, when experiencing the twists and turns and ups and downs of life, is left in suspense as to what the outcome of life and death will be. We are not in suspense. We know where we are going. We know a little about what it’s going to be like when we get there, and we know that we are going to inhabit bodies that will not age, get sick, or feel pain ever again.

This might be a prolonged difficult season for some reading this. The truth for you to remember is that the best way for you to handle it is to remember that your future is nothing at all like the present.

Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus
